Medical Transformer Panels

In mid-April, the finishing touches were put to the distribution panels for the Antonius Hospital in Sneek. On behalf of SPIE Building Solutions Groningen, we engineered two medical transformer panels in the Rittal VX cabinet system for the renovated operating rooms and central sterilization department of the Frisian hospital.

Working safely is absolutely central in hospitals. That is why the so-called medical transformers are different than usual. Leakage currents can be life-threatening for the patient when medical equipment unexpectedly comes under voltage. This is therefore protected and excluded with medical transformer panels.

A total of sixty-two 3300VA medical transformers are installed in the panels that will power the various operating rooms. The transformers are used to create a separate network so that the neutral is no longer connected to the earth. This has the advantage that there is no voltage difference between phase and earth (this means you could touch the phases without getting a shock). The transformers are protected by a Bender insulation resistance meter. In the event of current leakage, the higher-level security system will be notified. This is done via a bus cable and a relay contact. An error message will also be given if the transformer becomes too hot.
A successful FAT has now taken place and the panels have been linked on location.
