Rubis Terminal Botlek

Heat tracing panels

March 2020 - Botlek, The Netherlands

Rubis Terminal - located in the Botlek Chemical Harbour, specializes in the storage and transhipment of chemicals and petroleum products. The terminal was built in 2008 and is equipped with the very latest technology. With 42 tanks, a storage capacity of 197,000 m3 and 4 jetties, the terminal has an important competitive advantage. A lot of expansion is planned in the coming years.

Regarding recent expansion, Elektro Internationaal has been asked for the third time in a row to produce heat tracing panels on behalf of Thermon Europe. The order consists of six panels, five for an outdoor installation and one for indoors. The outdoor panels are made of stainless steel (304).

The purpose of the heat tracing panels is to keep the heating of different pipes at the same level, to ensure that the product passing through them (such as oil) remains at the correct temperature, so that it does not thicken, solidify or become unstable.

The control department of Elektro International integrates temperature control units (the so-called TC816) that are specially developed and supplied by Thermon into the panels, in full accordance with the regulations issued by Thermon. The heating elements on the various pipes and process elements of Rubis will be monitored from the panels by Residual Current Devices (or GFCI – Ground Fault Circuit Interupters). The power control and temperature regulation is done from the TC816 control units, via Solid State Relay.

During the Factory Acceptance Test of the panels - on location at Elektro Internationaal in Woerden - Thermon provides the control units with the correct software programming and the operation of the panels will be tested.
