Dow Benelux

Heat tracing panels

February 2019 - Delfzijl, the Netherlands

Dow Benelux B.V. works on innovations through a smart combination of scientific knowledge and technologies. Dow has a wide range of leading products and solutions, including specialist chemicals, high-quality materials, agricultural sciences and plastics. The products and services find their way to customers in 160 countries.

At the production site in Delfzijl, Dow produces Methylene Diphenyl di-Isocyanate (MDI), an important basic raw material for polyurethane. Polyurethane is used in mattresses, furniture, refrigerators, dashboards and mobile phones, among other things.

During the production process of MDI, pipes, flanges and the like must be heated to prevent the product from solidifying or thickening. Thermon Europe supplied Dow Delfzijl with  electric heating cables in various lengths and capacities.

Commissioned by Thermon Europe, Elektro Internationaal has made a design for two control panels for the regulation and operation of these cables, including the new Genesis control system. This system, a new generation of heat measurement and control application, was used for the first time outside of America by Thermon Benelux this year.

In close cooperation with Thermon, Elektro Internationaal has delivered two heat tracing panels with 36 groups in each panel. Each group is controlled with Solid State Relay, with controls that run via the Genesis system. The thermo-sensors (PT100) that are placed on different parts (such as pipes) of the factory installation are included in the tracing process.
