Strong in the hotel business

The improving economy has a positive effect on the hotel industry. Many hotel chains focus on new construction, or renewal and upgrade, which means that the electrical installations must also be redesigned and equipped. Enter SDR Elektrotechniek and Elektro Internationaal.

They are already a proven combination: installer SDR Elektrotechniek and panel builder Elektro Internationaal. Together they designed, built and installed many installations in the hotel industry. An industry that, according to project manager Gijsbert Randeraad, is in motion and facing the necessary challenges.
 

Onzichtbaar en flexibel
“Wij zijn als installateur al zeker 30 jaar actief in de hotelwereld. Doordat wij het werk iedere keer weer naar tevredenheid van de klant opleveren, rollen we van het ene in het andere project in de branche. We hebben dan ook de nodige ervaring opgedaan die van belang is bij het werken in hotels. Met name het installeren in hotels die op het moment van de werkzaamheden in gebruik zijn, vereist een zekere manier van werken van onze medewerkers: het werk moet gedaan worden terwijl je zoveel mogelijk probeert onzichtbaar te zijn voor de gasten. Dat vereist het nodige overleg, planning en zeker ook een stuk flexibiliteit. Wij weten daar uitstekend mee om te gaan.”
 

Invisible and flexible
”As an installer, we have been active in the hotel business for some 30 years. Because we succeed in delivering to the satisfaction of our customers, we keep rolling from one hotel project to another. We have therefore gained the necessary experience with working in hotels. In particular, installing in hotels that are in use at the time of the work requires a certain way of working from our employees: the work has to be done while trying to remain invisible to the guests as much as possible. This requires the necessary consultation, planning and certainly a lot of flexibility on our part. We know how to handle this perfectly.”
 

The language of the hotel world
Of course we also work on new construction projects in the accommodation business. This stems from the name we have built up in renovation projects. We also speak the language of the hotel world, so that we know what the customer needs and can provide them with good advice. Moreover, we know what is expected of us to get the hotel open to the public as quickly as possible. We do not only look at the work with a technical eye, but also through the eyes of the customer.

Clarity about delivery times
The fact that SDR offers its clients experience and advice is exactly what brings the installer to Elektro International. ”From the very first moment, Dirk Blom’s project team will help us figure out the optimal execution of the electrical installation. Not only the input they provide is valuable, but also their clarity about the delivery times. They always deliver on time. And if a longer delivery time should somehow occur they are clear about it from day one. That way no false expectations are created and we can all work towards a delivery date.”

Renaissance Amsterdam Schiphol Airport
Both parties recently worked on the new hotel, Renaissance Amsterdam Schiphol Airport of the Marriot chain. The hotel (designed by Mulderblauw) has 250 rooms spread over 5 floors. Also, a bar, restaurant and various meeting rooms have been realized. In addition to the electrical work, SDR took care of the engineering (in collaboration with Overdevest Adviseurs). For the central facilities, Elektro Internationaal supplied a main distributor built in the Schneider Electric Prisma P system and 18 sub-distributors in Prisma G. The main distribution board of 2500A / 1600 kVA is fed via a busbar rail for which the connecting pieces were fitted in the Elektro International workshop in order to simplify on-site commissioning. The sub-distributors are fed from the main board via cables. An NSA connection point was also provided. This ensures that non-preferential groups are disconnected and preferred groups are switched on. In addition, Elektro Internationaal supplied the terrain box for charging electric cars in the parking lot.
 

Cityden Amstelveen
Currently the installer and the panel builder are also finishing Cityden City Garden in the center of Amstelveen. The extended stay concept is part of the large multifunctional building The City Garden (also by Mulderblauw) that contains 77 luxury owner-occupied apartments, a restaurant, shops, social services and an underground car park. In the heart of the building there is an indoor garden laid out under architecture. For this new construction project in Amstelveen SDR provides the complete electrical installations of 89 hotel rooms (long stay), 77 luxury apartments, the parking garage and restaurant Amber Garden. For the central facilities, the installer again turned to Elektro Internationaal, which supplied the main distributor in Prisma P with a capacity of 1600Amp / 1000 kVA and 14 sub-distributors in Prisma G, which feed the individual panels in the hotel rooms.

Technisch en economisch resultaat
Dirk Blom, projecteider bij Elektro Internationaal: “De samenwerking tussen ons projectteam en SDR is gebaseerd op wederzijds vertrouwen. We kennen elkaars sterke en zwakke kanten en vullen elkaar waar nodig aan. Afspraken worden altijd nagekomen. SDR levert ons soms een eenvoudige schets of een stuk platte tekst aan, waar wij vlot een eerste opzet van maken, waardoor we al vroeg in het traject een werkbaar vertrekpunt hebben voor het project. Dat is zeker prettig als het om een korte doorlooptijd gaat. En doordat zij ons vanaf de start mee laten denken, bereiken we samen het beste mogelijke eindresultaat. Zowel technisch als economisch.”

Technical and economical results
Dirk Blom, project leader at Elektro Internationaal: ”The cooperation between our project team and SDR is based on mutual trust. We know each other’s strengths and weaknesses and complement each other where necessary. Appointments are always fulfilled. SDR sometimes provides us with a simple sketch or a piece of plain text, from which we quickly create a first set-up, so that we have a workable starting point for the project early on in the process. That is especially nice when we’re dealing with a short lead time. And because they let us think along from the start, together we achieve the best possible end results. Both technically and economically. ”
